01. Is HP 63 and 63XL the same?
"XL" stands for high yield, which means more ink in the cartridge and therefore has longer life.
HP 63 standard black ink cartridge is cheaper than XL ink cartridge, but its service life is not long. If you have enough money, it is recommended to buy HP 63XL. The service life of HP 63XL is at least twice longer than HP 63. Both HP 63 and 63XL ink cartridges can be used with all the same printers. HP 63 black ink cartridge can print 190 pages until it runs out, but HP 63XL black ink cartridge can print up to 480 pages. The cartridges are the same size, but XL has more ink.

HP 60, HP 61, HP 62, HP 63, HP 64, HP 65 and HP 67 are some of the most popular black and tri-color ink cartridge families. But the answer is no, even if they look similar and can be installed into your printer, they will not print if they are installed into the wrong printer.
The HP 60 cartridge does not work in the printers that use the HP 63 cartridge. Because each ink cartridge has a set of special metal contacts, the contacts on different types of ink cartridges are different. These contacts are uniquely coded and can only be used with a specific series of printers.

Common errors and troubleshooting steps
1. Compatibility Error Messages
If you have just installed a new HP ink cartridge and "compatibility error" is displayed on the printer, please thoroughly check the contacts on the ink cartridge. Usually, during the manufacturing process, fingerprint oil, tape residue and dry ink will eventually fall on the ink cartridge contacts and cause the problems.
2. Empty Cartridge Message
When you install a new HP 63XL Ink Cartridge into your printer, the message “empty ink cartridge” may appear on the printer screen. This happens because the remanufacturing company does not reset the metal contact chip on the cartridge during the refurbishment process, or the chip did not install in the right places.
To erase this message, first, you can check if the chip of the replacement ink was installed in the correct direction.
Second, you can use the eraser to clean the contacts slightly.
Reset the printer, and then press OK.
Doing so will allow your printer to use the printer cartridge as usual.
